Summary
Zoobles! is a miniature figure toy line created by Spin Master as the girls' version of Bakugan. Both lines use the same gimmick, that being, pop-up spheroids which open when contacting a magnet. These figures were originally released on August 2010 in the United States, consisting of a wide variety of animal characters Spring to Life! when placed on a magnetic card or their Happitat. The success of the franchise pushed it's market across seas to, most famously, Japan, licensed under Zoobles! by the Japanese toy division of Sega.
The entire toy line was later released in Japan by Sega Toys in March 17, 2011,[1]having a lot of changes in the canonical universe, while incorporating both candy and sweets themes into the characters and toys. In addition, Recipe Cards, special magnetic cards were also included in each release. These cards had the same feature as the Happitats, which were considered as activation points to the Zoobles when it came contact. However, some of the playsets that were released in Japan weren't available in the American versions.
Nearly every zooble has a unique happitat with a magnet on its 'hot-spot' that makes it transform. The happitat doubles as daytime play center and a cozy house to sleep night. Happitats vary in color and theme, but are functionally the same.
Zoobles also has multiple points of articulation for playability, and even blink their eyes while the player "pets" its head. Each one possesses a unique set of characteristics based on their individual personality and location within Zooble Isle. To distinguish each Zooble (aside from visual differences) they have all been individually named and numbered so children are able to keep an inventory of their collection.
Zooble Variations
Though Zoobles all possess the same primary function, Spin Master has adapted and released several variations, which were later released worldwide:
- Twoobles - a double pack version of the standard Zoobles. It consists of Two Zoobles using a dual Happitat for both activation and sleep. Twoobles exist in every region of Zooble Isle.
- Dee-lights - Special Zoobles that light up and provide a special glow with their unique Happitat.
- Special Edition - Zoobles that are embellished with gems, flocking and other special decorations. They are far more decorative than the standard Zooble and come with Deluxe Happitats.
- Hair-doobles - Special Zoobles that have removable hair extensions and earrings.
- Zooble Mamas and Zooblings - These zoobles have their own baby zoobles, which can be placed in their mother's stomach.
- Glow-in-the-Dark - These special zoobles can glow in the dark to a dark room alongside their happitats.
- Dressoobles - Special Zoobles in which their Happitats doubles as fashion accessories, allowing the player to dress them up.
- Chatteroos - Zoobles that has a special switch that allows them to talk.
